Using line drawings, descriptions, and photographs, we will begin to build your visual vocabulary so that when you encounter a historic home in the wild, you will have a type of mental field guide that will help you identify its character-defining features, significant knowledge that will also help you compare it to other homes with similar characteristics. Armed with this context, you will be able to better understand the meaning of individual houses in their neighborhood, city, state, and national history. We will also discuss archival resources and secondary books that will be useful if you choose to expand your research on Lexington's historic landscapes.

    Monument removals and recent debates over school curricula have all drawn unprecedented attention to the history of race, slavery, and the Civil War. This public reckoning has given the work of historians renewed urgency--and made the effort to reconstruct elements of the long-hidden past newly meaningful today. This talk will tell the stories of people and events that have been recently uncovered about Kentucky’s Civil War history, especially the history of Emancipation.

    Join us for an engaging and informative workshop where you’ll discover over 20 tips and tricks to maximize the potential of your Apple Watch! Whether you’re a new user or a seasoned pro, this session will help you unlock many of the capabilities of your device. Some of the tips include the following: learn how to get help in an emergency, remove apps from your watch, make the text size larger, adjust brightness and wake duration, change the layout of your watch, mute your watch notifications, use your watch as an alarm clock, use auto pause for workouts, use your watch as a flash light and running or walking light at night, unlock your iPhone with your watch, and find your iPhone with your watch. An Apple Watch 6 will be used for demonstration. Many of the features are similar on the different series of Apple Watches that are using the current Watch operating system.

The books for October, November and December will be selected by the group from a master list. Handouts will be emailed a few days before each session.

    This course is for bridge players who are familiar with basic bidding and play of the hand. Students will learn the basics of Two Over One Bidding, Jacoby and Bergen Raises, One Notrump Responses, Constructive Raises, & Weak Raises. They will also be introduced to helpful conventions, such as Puppet Stayman and Drury Raises. Each class will include lecture and play.

    This course builds on methods and skills learned in a basic bidding course. It introduces students to several conventions to improve bidding skills. Players who practice the conventions taught here are more likely to reach the correct level and strain than when using SA.

    TAI CHI AND DRUMMING

    TAI CHI: Did you know that tai chi can cut falls by 50%. Studies show it greatly improves balance, stability and flexibility, Tai chi is a gentle, low impact exercise suitable for all fitness levels.

    CARDIO DRUMMING: is a rhythmic workout that combines drumming with cardiovascular exercise. Participants use exercise balls, known as stability balls, and drumsticks to beat along with music. The routine typically includes a variety of movements such as drumming overhead or to the side, creating a full-body workout that enhances cardiovascular health, coordination, and balance. Not to mention the sheer pleasure of making music together.
