Out of the Box   

The cultural context of Bigfoot will be examined in a historical context from an international perspective. The question will be explored as to why the icon of Bigfoot has become so popular in American advertising, films, TV programs, and in social media in spite of the denial of its existence. Reports of actual encounters in Kentucky and the local area will be shared. The course will conclude with a field experience to a forest location where a Bigfoot encounter was reported.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) Talks is a series of videos (originally from TED conferences) featuring speakers with “Ideas worth sharing.” This SIG will take advantage of the wide variety of topics in the program by watching one or two of the videos (with a maximum time of 30 minutes), followed by discussion. Previous topics have included artificial intelligence (AI), space, mental health issues, and art.
