The Arboretum is gearing up for Fall, and you can help OLLI decorate. It is free and everyone is encouraged to participate.

Whimsical and fun, garden themed, or spooky, we’d love to see your creativity. All scarecrows must be appropriate for visitors of all ages and be weather-worthy. Treyton Blackburn and other volunteers from the UK Extension Office have agreed to help the OLLI scarecrow builders.

Scarecrow installation will occur the week of September 27 and need to be removed October 17.

OLLI has pledged FIVE scarecrows; so we need volunteers to put these together. This could be five teams of 3-4 OLLI Members. We are eager to see what our community’s creativity will bring out this year.

**Depending on the number of people, we are waiting to give definate date and time.  We will get that information as soon as we can.  This will be held at the UK Extension Office located at 1140 Harry Sykes Way, Lexington, KY  40504.

    9:00am - Breakfast - Keeneland Track Kitchen

    10:30am - Keeneland Library, 4201 Versailles Road

We will start off the day with an on-your-own breakfast at the Keeneland Track Kitchen. We have reserved the Meeting Room at the Track Kitchen for our group. The Track Kitchen is known for its great hearty breakfasts and where many horse trainers and jockeys start their day.

At 10:30am we will tour the Keeneland Library: The Library, established in 1939, is the world’s largest repository of information and image resources that chronicle the past and present of the Thoroughbred industry in Kentucky and abroad.

We will visit the Keeneland Library’s Research Room, laboratory for preservation and conservation projects, rare book and archives room, warehouse, and vault featuring books dating from the late 1500s and the country’s earliest Turf photographic prints and negatives. Keeneland Library is home to 35,000 book volumes, 25 million pages of industry coverage, thousands of linear feet of archives, and 5 million still images.
